Multiculturalism at Vietnamese universities has been promoted in recent years. Many public universities in Vietnam have established relationships with a lot of higher educational institutions worldwide, especially those from developed countries such as the US, the UK or Australia. The reason for this is that many domestic institutions want to enhance the quality of their courses to increase the enrollment rate. Besides, this kind of corporation brings the opportunities for Vietnamese students to have half a year or even a full academic year study in the partner universities and vice versa. Hence, this allows multiculturalism to thrive and culture learning to be widely adopted. In reality, it is not hard to see European or African students appear on the campuses of universities in Vietnam. There are even international offices and organizations to support them in accomplishing their exchange semesters. However, conflict as the result of thriving multiculturalism at universities is unavoidable. Students with Western cultural backgrounds might encounter severe culture shock regarding cuisine, climate and social practices of Vietnam, and the same happens to Vietnamese students having exchanged semesters or years in Western countries. Unfortunately, not all of them can overcome this easily as the cultural differences are extreme. Therefore, the tips that I am going to give to those who want to apply for the exchange programs is that you should learn the culture of the host countries on the Internet beforehand. And remember to ask for help whenever you have difficulties coexisting with the local cultures.
