Countable/ Uncountable nouns

a/an, some/any

	Countable

affirmative	There’s an onion.	There are some onions.
negative	There isn’t a cucumber.	There aren’t any cucumbers.
interrogative	Is there an egg?	Are there any eggs?

We can use *some* in interrogative sentences to make offers and requests. Would you like some milk? (offer) Can I have some tea please? (request)

- We need to buy some apples and a bottle of milk.

- Let’s go to the supermarket.

Note!

- Countable nouns are nouns we can count. They have singular and plural forms, e.g. an apple-two/some apples.

- Uncountable nouns are nouns we cannot count. They usually have singular forms, e.g. some milk - NOT: milks

These nouns include food (cheese, meat, flour, sugar, salt, etc.), liquid (coffee, tea, water, etc.)

Chúng ta có thể sử dụng *some* trong câu hỏi để đưa ra lời đề nghị hoặc yêu cầu. Would you like some milk? (offer) (Bạn có muốn một ít sữa không? – đề nghị) Can I have some tea please? (request) (Tôi có thể uống chút trà được không, làm ơn? – yêu cầu)

- We need to buy some apples and a bottle of milk.

Chú ý!

- Danh từ đếm được là những danh từ mà ta đếm được. Chúng có dạng số ít và số nhiều, ví dụ: an apple-two/some apples.

- Danh từ không đếm được là danh từ ta không đếm được. Chúng thường có dạng số ít, ví dụ: some milk - NOT: milks

Những danh từ này bao gồm thực phẩm (cheese, meat, flour, sugar, salt, etc.), chất lỏng (coffee, tea, water, etc.)

We use any with plural countable nouns in negative sentences and in most questions.

(Chúng ta sử dụng ‘any’ với danh từ đếm được số nhiều trong câu phủ định và trong hầu hết các câu hỏi.)
